Today, the top Democrat in Westchester County, David Carlucci, announced his candidacy for the congressional seat seeking to challenge the incumbent Jamaal Bowman.
“I’m running for Congress because I feel passionately about the future of our country,” said Carlucci. “We need strong, progressive leadership that will fight for real change for the working families of this community — and I know how to get the job done.”
Carlucci, a state senator, is running for New York’s 16th Congressional District, which includes parts of Westchester County, White Plains, Yonkers and Mount Vernon. Bowman, a progressive Democrat, won the June Democratic Primary and will face Republican challenger Maureen McArdle Schulman in the November general election.
Carlucci, who has represented the 38th District in the New York State Senate for nine years, has a record of progressive accomplishments. Among his key accomplishments, he was the lead sponsor of the “red flag” legislation to keep firearms out of the hands of people who may present a risk to themselves or others, and successfully passed legislation to strengthen gun safety before it went to the Governor’s desk.
In addition to his progressive achievements, Carlucci is a strong proponent of economic empowerment and job creation. He helped create the SUNY-Empire State College Manufacturing Institute and was the lead sponsor of the nation’s first “joint employer” legislation.
As he campaigns for the congressional seat, Carlucci seeks to bring together both sides of the political aisle, claiming that it is the only way we can truly make progress.
“We can’t let gridlock and tribalism paralyze our government any longer. We deserve better – that’s why I’m running for Congress.” said Carlucci.
