Frontier, a development studio and publisher of games, recently announced plans to restructure their team in order to accelerate development for the upcoming year. The new structure comes following the huge success of Frontier’s high-profile titles Jurassic World Evolution, Planet Coaster, and Elite Dangerous.
Although it’s unclear what changes will be made, it’s likely the new structure will strengthen collaboration between the several studios now managed by Frontier Developments. It’s also been reported that the changes will include a new centralised executive structure, which is expected to optimise development processes and expand the company’s resources.
Rather than just focusing on individual projects, the move is aimed at making Frontier more efficient and productive overall. According to CEO David Braben, the team restructure is designed to “further improve and simplify collaboration between our studios in the UK, Canada, and India as we continue to expand our capabilities and move faster”.
On top of this, Frontier is also working on a range of new titles. Among them is Lost Wind: Land of the Living, their first major mobile title and the newest addition to the Frontier IP portfolio. Additionally, Frontier is reportedly working on additional games in the Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster franchises, with plans to reveal more details later this year.
The development team restructuring is only part of what Frontier has in store for 2024. As part of the team restructuring, Frontier has announced the appointment of Jonny Watts to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer. With almost 15 years of experience in studio operations, Watts will be responsible for driving the company’s operational excellence and ensuring all development teams have the right resources, tools, and systems to create the best possible gaming experiences.
By restructuring their team, Frontier is well-positioned to take their business to the next level this year. With new leadership in place and a vast portfolio of titles, Frontier is set to reach new heights in game development, no doubt delighting fans and newcomers alike in the year ahead.
