The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, is finding support from some unlikely allies in the battle of the ballot box.
It is no secret that things between the Republican Party and Donald Trump have not been cordial for a while now, but recent developments suggest that the former President may have found a new source of support from within his own party’s ranks.
In response to the chaotic month of the election in November, President Trump has been pushing for changes to the absentee and mail-in voting system. This has largely been seen as an effort to secure an advantage for Republican candidates in the upcoming elections.
Although the Republican Party itself has been no fan of Trump’s antics, some of the President’s internal allies have been rallying around him in a sign of solidarity. Specifically, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Vice President Mike Pence, and Senator Lindsey Graham have all expressed their support for President Trump’s call to review the mail-in voting system.
Pompeo even went as far as to say, “The integrity of our elections is vital for our free Republic. We should ensure that these historic elections are decided by the people and not some bureaucratic process.” Pence and Graham echoed similar messages.
Additionally, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has publicly stated that he supports the former President’s right to pursue legal action on the issue.
The bottom line is that although the Republican Party and Donald Trump may have had significant disagreements in the past, it appears that Trump is now able to count on the support of some of his Republican allies in the ballot battle.
Time will tell whether or not these unlikely allies will continue to rally around the former President, but in the meantime, it appears that Trump may have found a new source of support within his own party.
