The pro-life movement is still expecting to see major victories despite the passage of several recent ballot initiatives seeking expanded access to abortions.
In November, a number of states held election referendums in which some sought to allow abortions up to the point of birth while others sought to further restrict them. While this caused much consternation among pro-life and pro-choice supporters, the pro-life movement is unwilling to give up hope.
Speaking at a rally in Washington on Monday, an influential pro-life leader expressed optimism that even in the face of growing public support for legalized access to abortion, their movement would continue to push for and obtain victories in the national and local legislatures.
“Pro-life leaders are empowered and resolute, continuing to press forward the core issues of protecting unborn life, defending the vulnerable, and investing untold hours in community programs that serve the true needs of women in our society,” the leader said.
They further affirmed their conviction that “no matter what headline-grabbing initiatives may pass in any given state, they will ultimately meet their demise in the courts or on the floors of our federal and state legislatures.”
In other positive news, the leader pointed to victories that their movement has already seen this year. In Louisiana, the passage of Amendment No. 1, otherwise known as the “Life Begins at Conception Amendment,” grants legal status to unborn babies and can provide a major victory for the right-to-life movement if it contests before the Supreme Court of the United States.
Additionally, the leader highlighted Defund Planned Parenthood, a movement to remove funding for the controversial organization from the U.S. budget. This movement has gained significant momentum in the past several years and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Overall, the pro-life leader is convinced that the movement has seen devastating losses in recent years, but anticipates major victories ahead. In their words: “We are unbowed and we are unyielding. We will not rest until Roe v. Wade is overturned and the rights of the unborn are given full legal recognition and protections.
